Remember when they used to give the odd track away when you bought gig tickets? #justsaying ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Agreed, it's like they want me to, say, not 'buy' it ...Not that I would ever do that of course... *cough*

Especially when the intial email that was sent out on the 3rd of June asking you to produce your own album as
and I quote..... "Our new album isn't a CD. It's digital."
Kind of leads you to believe that there wouldn't be a physical album in the first place. Which is why many went out to produce their own.

The second email does seem to backtrack - 'due to the success of downloading there is a demand for CD'. Personally for me the logic of that doesn't follow through. Especially as if you wanted 'their' version it was available as a d/l

having said that, I would always go for a CD over d/l when offered both.
The thing is here we weren't offered both, so its a bit grating when if i'd waited i'd have got more songs for less money. and in a preferred physical format.
I think the jist of what i'm saying is I'm not made of money!

I totally understand where you're coming from.
What I just cant fathom is the thinking behind.... the download is selling loads so lets release a phyical album, when most people have already got the songs.
Oh no wait if we add a couple of more tracks then people will buy another copy.

"Total albums created and sold: ~2,500 (as of Monday morning 11am 6th June)
That really isn't that many, assuming it is accurate. So what 'demand' are they on about?

I can't help but think they always intended to release a physical copy, with a new song or two thrown in so anyone who made their own might be enticed to buy the CD too. Wish I'd known that for sure when I made my copies. Personally, I prefer physical copy to download, so the downloads weren't something I would normally do. However, this was a different, novel new approach, and I could be creative with it, so it was fun to try. But yeah, I definitely would've made my own album differently if I'd known for certain there was going to be a physical release. Since it'll be a while before the CD comes out where I live, I'm going to wait on buying anything off iTunes. In the past, the CDs we could get here offered bonus tracks, like my YTAM and OWTH did. So, maybe the TFIM CD will include the iTunes offerings. At least I already have most of the songs now. Can't wait to get Kinda Girl You Are though. From what I can hear on the videos I've seen, that song is ace!

See, I just knew why I didn't bother to make my own album, I just bought all of the 20 songs. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) I'm happy about the CD release, but I can understand people saying they are not made of money. Same here! Releasing a proper CD today is quite expensive for bands though so I'm not sure if they will make much money out of it. Might just be a treat for us then?

Just worked out that with the physical copy and my album, I will only not have 4 of the songs. Not bad going.

Just worked out that with the physical copy and my album, I will only not have 4 of the songs. Not bad going. Depends on which 4 ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) . I bought the album twice to get all tracks and have ordered the cd, but there are 4 tracks I would have been ok with not having, which for me are "Fly On The Wall", "Back In December", "Saying Something", and "My Place Is Here". But I would definitely not want to be without "Problem Solved", "I Dare You", "Can't Mind My Own Business", or "Cousin In The Bronx". But I don't mind paying for the album 3 times to get all of the tracks for a couple of reasons: 1) Making the online album with cover art was really fun (both times) and that experience was worth some money beyond the obvious benefit of owning the tracks. 2) So many of the new tracks are just so good - if this method of releasing them was part of the inspiration for creating them (which is the case according to interviews), then I'll say I am very happy to pay extra to get such great music.

I'm going to get a CD of the album so if anyone doesn't want to pay again for yet another copy of the album then I'll quite happily upload and share Kinda Girl You Are.

Agreed, I loved the whole album making thing, it was great and made two albums as I wanted all the tracks. And the physical release has got to be done, but to buy a 4th album on iTunes for the one track I'd really really like (Howlaround) is just a bit much. I understand they're giving iTunes the exclusive for both that and 'City', and that's the way things tend to work these days, but around £30 in total on what will in effect be a lot of duplicate music is annoying, as Howlaround seems to be 'album only' and not available to download separately. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

It is really annoying. I don't mind buying the physical album, because I like to have a real album from my favourite bands anyway but paying for yet another album download for a couple of songs (which they know a lot of fans will want to have) feels like we're being taken advantage of.
I bet that the songs will eventually make their way to YouTube, and I could rip the MP3 from there, and upload them for you if I manage.

![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) I think someone has to say it so I'll be the one. We've beeen conned !! Like many others, I only did the download because we were told quite explicitly that there was no CD. There was such a short interval before the CD was annnounced that I agree that must have been the plan all the time. Given that the people who bought the download are likely to be the 'true fans' it seems the worst possible bit of marketing to alienate those very fans by ripping them off this way. If anyone has any means of conveying this feeling to KC or their management I would be grateful if they did that. Peter

I see where you're coming from, Peter but I don't consider myself as being conned. Like I said in my previous post releasing a proper CD can be a bit expensive today, someone correct me if I'm wrong though, please.
So to me it depends on which point you're looking at it from. I'm quite happy about the CD release and I've been sort of asking for it, as have other fans, so they (management or whoever) might have changed their minds and agreed on releasing a CD even though they didn't want to from the start. They also might have conned us, I don't know. But to be honest I don't care. Nobody forces me to buy the CD. I might have only bought the missing songs would I have known there'd be a CD release but ho hum.
Releasing different versions of an album or a single is sort of a common thing to do for ages. Not only Chiefs are doing it. It's always been a way to boost sales figures. It's up to myself to decide whether I want to buy all the stuff and support the band/industry or not. I think it's sort of a rip-off but what can you do?

Well it's definitely cheeky, as they definitely originally said "no physical release". Luckily I dithered so long choosing my ten tracks that they announced the CD first, so I've ordered the CD, and have just made my own album with the tracks that aren't on the CD (4 of the tracks on the CD I don't particularly like and wouldn't have bothered getting, but hey ho, they might grow on me).
More annoyed about the itunes only release of Howlaround, which I love, as I don't have itunes and don't want to buy the album again.

If you could buy the extra itunes tracks separately it'd be fine, but it doesn't look that way.

I'll add to the hint hinting too, I realllly want Howlaround.
As a side issue, look what Take That did - an album called Progress, then added a few more tracks and released 'Progressed'. I personally think that is actually quite naughty.
And the endless greatest hits albums of some bands, same old tracks, different order, time and time again.

I must admit I only bought Take That's original 'Progress' because it was on special in Tescos. *bad fan*

Its not like anything can be about it now anyway, is there? the wheels are in motion now and cant be changed.
I know management are aware of some of our opinions on the matter. Although again, it never got us anywhere.

I don't really do downloads.....as the main reason is that I don't have a fecking clue how to do it, I always like my solid physical releases and my vinyl.
Do we know if there is a vinyl at all?
