Thought it wouldn't hurt to make a thread about all this; seemed daft to make two separate ones... Somewhere to share thoughts and comments; I'm sure the sports fans amongst us will want to put their opinions across... More a lover of football personally... Seen all the games so far; also predicted the correct score for England -v- France... Which won me a nice tidy bet. Not one of those counting down the days until The Olympics, it has to be said... Will no doubt end up watching bits and pieces, but I certainly won't be glued to the telly... Probably looking forward to seeing the opening ceremony the most actually... Liking the English countryside theme and all the stuff they're rumoured to have planned. All sounds pretty impressive... Guess that remains to be seen...

Contrary to all the extra time predictions that seem to be being bandied about for tonight... I personally don't think it's gonna go that far... Have stuck my neck out and put a bet on England winning 1-0... Stranger things have happened... Disclaimer: So I look stupid if I'm way off the mark. Big deal

I know, I think as someone said on Twitter "I can take the despair but it's the hope I can't cope with"! We played OK at the start of the game but it fell apart, Gerard wasn't on form, Rooney never made it back to any form, my friend who's a Watford fan said Ashley Young never scored from penalties for them so why did they let him take one for England? Best thing about us was our defence. Italy were better than us on the night (but not quite good enough to get a goal in normal play) but I don't think they'll beat Germany.
Hopefully we will build on that and qualify for the World Cup. I may be slightly biased as Mr Sloth is a West Brom fan so Roy Hodgson is much admired in the Sloth household anyway.
Looking forward to the Olympics (have been watching the athletics trials over the weekend to see who gets picked for the team), we have tickets to one evening session so will get to see some live athletics in the stadium (men's 1,500 m final is the big one that session), but we're right up at the top of the seating so we won't "see" that much, it's all about the atmosphere though!
Other than that will be doing quite a few of the gigs that are in Hyde Park (have tickets for Opening/Closing ceremony concerts there, plus guaranteed entry for the Tom Jones day, and hope to pop along for The Feeling and Nik Kershaw), so will catch some of the events on the big screens there, when not watching at home.

I was so irritated and frustrated with it all... Just needed to vent; hence my multiple posts... Far too much emphasis on Rooney... Yeah he's good. Sometimes. He's not bigger individually though than the England team. I think people are guilty of forgetting that sometimes... Too much pressure on him alone to be the one to pull it all back... Glad I only stuck a small bet on... Had a TV engineer round today who stuck 50 squids on England smashing it... He was not a happy bunny. Just glad I hadn't been that confident/stupid... Cheered my day right up, that did. ;D Funny you mentioning Watford - Vicarage Road isn't that far from me... Went there many a time when I was a kid with my dad... Though back then, I used to look forward to the fish and chips afterwards more... I like Roy Hodgson... And he certainly can't be held 100 per cent accountable... Have to say I'm with you on Germany beating Italy... Even with Italy's record of beating Germany in major tournaments... Just got a feeling about this game... Don't feel confident enough to bet on it though Obviously you're a big fan of The Olympics... Certainly sounds like you've got a good few things planned... Don't think it will really matter when it comes to seating layouts... I should imagine it will feel amazing wherever anyone is... Like you say - it will all be about the atmosphere...

Yeah, I'm more of an international sports person than a national one, so I come alive for World Cups/European Championships/Olympics/Wimbledon and then hibernate the rest of the time! We're round the M25 the other way from Watford, down towards Heathrow. My Watford fan friend is married to an Arsenal supporter - luckily the argument about which team the children will support has been rather avoided by neither child liking football at all.....
So pleased Spain won last night, and I'm afraid I laughed myself silly when Ronaldo didn't even take a penalty! Stupid to leave him so late in the penalty line up, he should have been up in the first three. Very much looking forward to the game tonight, I think it will be a good one and I predict it won't go to penalties, there will be a result (so expect penalties then...) ;D

Was a great game; I really enjoyed it... Kinda figured Spain would come out on top... Hence my final flutter to that effect. Though I called it at 2-0... Was talking to a couple of Italians today funnily enough... Die hard fans they were... Yet they said themselves that Spain had deserved it... That they'd been the better team on the night... Can't really argue with that I guess... Don't know about anyone else... But I'm rather liking the title sequence for The Olympics, from what I've seen so far... I think the giant stadium 'theme' concept is a good one... And the style of animation they've used is beautiful... I'm sure most people have seen it...
