The central Travelodge by the Cockpit/train station is only £19 for the Sunday night, a few miles away from Kirkstall Abbey though. Really sorry it's taken ages for me to reply and say thank you for your suggestion! I've got myself sorted out now-I'm not directly in Leeds but it shouldn't take that long to get there! A general question-has anybody ever been to a gig at the Abbey before? What's the parking situation like?

No and no, if I was you I'd give them a ring I rang them earlier as I was looking on Google Maps and the car park looks very small, they lady at Kirkstall said there will definately be some parking, but give me the email address to ask for more info. So I'm guessing you e-mailed the same people event@leeds.gov.uk is the email if anyone needs it though.

Thank you. On a side note, does anybody have an idea of how big these gigs will be?

Thanks for that. I found this a while back - Kirkstall are holding what looks like a large event this weekend, it mentions event parking that's available at £5 per car in the fields adjacent to the Abbey car park. The Abbey car park itself looks quite small if you look at the site on Google Street View, but also there are Metro bus stops right outside so it looks well serviced by public transport. Headingley train station is also 1/4 mile walk away. www.leeds.gov.uk/kirkstallabbey/Kirkstall_Abbey/whats_on.aspxI'm sure they'll have overflow parking for Chiefs too.

Thank you for those! Seems as though you and your internet investigation skills are much better finding out whats going on than the organisers themselves!

I'll put both days here, so here goes.
Lucky enough to get to the barrier between Ricky & Whitey both days, and it seemed as though Nick's podium was off centre slightly so from where I was standing I could see all five of them clearly which made a nice change. Supports were smashing, although I have to say I preferred Sunday's lineup, namely Spector, Frankie & The Heartstrings & The Cribs as I love all three bands and really enjoyed their sets. Brilliant.
Bit of a rain shower during the fabulous Pete & The Pirates on Saturday, but apart from that it was pretty warm and sunny so we were lucky. Lovely rainbow over the stage though!
Chiefs themselves.. they really did blow me away, and I'm not just saying that. It was as though they were really enjoying it, having a laugh, pulled out all the stops and performed their hearts out. I would have loved a longer set, and kind of expected maybe 1 hr 40mins being a bigger show, maybe a few more songs? But they played 18 (19 including Howlaround I guess - which in itself is just so damn good) I'm sure they did the same setlist both nights.
EDILYLAL NMAB Little Shocks EIAN Problem Solved (how bloody good was that?!) Modern Way (Peanut walking out to clap, to Steptoe & Son played by Whitey) Good Days Bad Days (fab being able to sing along to that again) Man on Mars Ruby Angry Mob (complete with confetti cannons, wheeee) Na Na Na Na Naa (dawned on me how much I've missed it) Starts With Nothing (gets better every time I see it) IPAR Kinda Girl You Are (everyone around me loved it, singing like mad, which was nice to see) TMT (complete with Ricky appearing among the ruins, in one window one minute, standing in a doorway the next, and the ruins were all lit up at times during the gig. Breathtaking)
Encore: Child of the Jago (loved it) LNAC (really didn't think I'd see that live again, and the version I love so much too. All got to me and I did blub a bi of course, doh) OMG to finish (complete with fireworks, whee)
So as well as bouncing around like a loony, laughing so many times throughout etc. it was a very memorable weekend, and what a venue. Stunning place. Definitely want to visit again when the ruins are open etc. and have time to properly wander round.
Looked like a fair amount of complaints about queueing for beer for almost two hours, queues to get out of just the one exit, queues for toilets etc. but as I didn't have a beer, didn't need the loo as I seem to have the bladder capacity of a camel when I'm at gigs (too much information) and chatted with people before leaving a bit later, and sat in the car on Facebook for ten minutes waiting for the car park traffic to die down, then managed to drive straight out to McDonalds - it was all good.
Thoroughly fantastic weekend I'll never forget. Really lovely to see the few people I chatted to and met up with again, missed the people who couldn't make it though, wished they were there to share it with. Met a lovely couple in the queue on Saturday, who ran with me to the barrier and ended up in front of the extra bit of stage to the side. They saw me and we both shouted 'yay' at each other as we got the spots we wanted. They ran over after the gig and hugged me having had such a lovely time, this being their second time seeing Chiefs. They're now going to do some dates on the tour. Hope to see them again!
Happy bunny. ;D

Thanks for the great review, sounds like you had a smashing weekend. I am a little bit sad that I didn't go, but it was the right choice.

Wow, smashing review! You're sooo lucky you got to do both nights! ;D From the photos I've seen, it looks like it was phenomenal! Such an interesting venue. The support acts were cool too (The Cribs!) I get the impression it wasn't just your regular Chiefs gig; it was special. I think this is the first time I've actually felt jealous about missing out on a gig.

And whoever chose/played the tracks between sets had great taste. Enjoyed every one of them and made the waiting time fly by. Nice one.

Looked like a fair amount of complaints about queueing for beer for almost two hours, Apparently, the bar was set up with super fast pumps which should have filled pints up in less time, problem being that when they overheated they cut out...hence the queues.
